DNA Glycosylase Enzymes

Gene Target Solutions distributes DNA glycosylase enzymes within Australia, including Epicentre Bio’s Uracil DNA Excision Mix and Uracil N-glycosylase (UNG).   DNA glycosylases are a family of enzymes involved in base excision repair, the mechanism by which damaged bases in DNA are removed and replaced. DNA glycosylases catalyze the first step of this process by removing the damaged nitrogenous base while leaving the sugar-phosphate backbone intact, This creates an apurinic/apyrimidinic (AP) site, by flipping the damaged base out of the double helix followed by cleavage of the N-glycosidic bond.  Applications include DNA repair studies, mapping of uracil-containing residues in any DNA, and mapping CpG islands.
